Chick Chick Chick Chick Chicken!
Categories: School News
A company called "Living Eggs" delivered 12 chicken eggs on Tuesday 15 June. Kindergarten pupils were able to see the eggs hatch and get a real life view of life cycles which was a topic being covered during the summer term. An incubator, brooder box and all the feed and bedding needed for this unique 10 day experience were also delivered. The eggs started to hatch that night so by Wednesday morning we had 3 chicks.
We had 7 chicks in total hatch and once they had recovered from the stress of pecking their way out of the shell and had dried off, they were moved a few at a time into the brooder box. They love company and they weren't alone for long as the whole school were keen to look at the little hatchlings!
The brown /dark yellow chicks are female and the light yellow /white chicks are male.
Kindergarten pupils have started to identify and classify the chicks, look at their characteristics, name them, weigh them, measure them, keep a diary, write poems and design houses for them.
